Apple has just rolled out a public beta of its Apple Maps feature for the web. This new capability allows users to access Apple Maps through Safari and other web browsers, eliminating the need to open the Maps app for directions.
The web version of Apple Maps functions similarly to the app, providing driving and walking directions, information on places to visit, user ratings, hours of operation, and curated Guides. Users can also order food directly from the Maps place card and discover places to eat, shop, and explore in cities worldwide. Apple has announced that additional features, such as Look Around, will be added in the coming months.
With this new web feature, Apple Maps aims to provide an alternative to Google Maps, which has been the leading web-based mapping service. To explore Apple Maps on the web, visit Apple’s Maps.Apple.com. Developers can link to the web version from their apps, allowing users to access driving directions and location information seamlessly.
Currently, Apple Maps on the web is available in English and supports Safari and Chrome on Mac and iPad, as well as Chrome and Edge on Windows PCs. Apple intends to expand support to more languages, browsers, and platforms over time.
